The Great North Bedchamber was Walpole's state bedchamber and the final parade room of the House. On entering the Bedchamber the visitors found themselves in a room in the French style, bathed both in reflected crimson light from the damask of the walls and in amber light from the armorial glass made by Peckitt. As the focus of the room, against the far wall and flanked by two chairs on either side, stood the bed, enriched by Aubusson tapestry hangings with festoons of flowers woven in bright colour against a pale background.
